Dear
parents and students, |
|
Welcome
to GISB, |
|
Education
encompasses teaching
and learning
specific skills,
and also something
less tangible
but more profound:
the imparting
of knowledge,
positive judgment
and well-developed
wisdom. The Geethanjali
group of Institutions
was founded keeping
in mind these
ideals about
education. From
the beginning,
with the establishment
of each and every
institution,
we have inched
closer to the
perfect balance
between intellect,
experience and
rationale of
knowledge, thereby
creating a perfect
atmosphere wherein
the transfusion
of all of those
mentioned above
can take place
effortlessly. |
|
Gitanjali
International
School Bangalore
(GISB) is a happy
culmination of
painstaking research,
deep soul searching
and an intense
desire to develop
a world class
educational campus
with a warm and
friendly atmosphere
rooted in Indian
ethos. The concept
of ‘Change’ is
always welcome
at GISB as the
horizon of knowledge,
especially in
the world we
live today, seems
to be broadening
every single
day. Hence it
is only wise
to create a system
of learning and
living wherein
there is a constant
flux of activities
and infrastructure
so as to ensure
the development
and exposure
of young minds
to new value
based education
and latest technologies
that aid in the
value delivery
of education. |
|
Apart
from being an
administrator,
I have donned
the role of a
student once
and a professor
as well, and
having experienced
both faces of
the coin, it
is of my opinion
that the relation
between a teacher
and student is
symbiotic in
nature and one
cannot exist
without the other.
It has always
been a firm belief
of mine in the
ideals of George
Bernard Shaw
when he states: “What
we want is to
see the child
in pursuit of
knowledge, and
not knowledge
in pursuit of
the child.” |
|
Thank
you

About
Cambridge |
|
While
many of you
may be familiar
with the
Indian system
of education – CBSE
which in
itself is
undergoing
a sea of
transformation
so as to
orient itself
along the
lines of
leading international
syllabi such
as Cambridge.
|
|
Cambridge
is a global
curriculum
that is offered
by the prestigious
University
of Cambridge
through its
CIE (Cambridge
International
Examinations)
certified
centres such
as GISB.
GISB offers
not only
the IGCSE ‘O’ levels
(Xth grade)
but also
the GCSE ‘AS’ and ‘A’ levels
(11th and
12th Grades).
|
|
Cambridge
IGCSE encourages
learner-centered
and enquiry-based
approaches
to learning.
It develops
learners’ skills
in creative
thinking,
enquiry and
problem solving,
giving learners
excellent
preparation
for the next
stage in
their education.
Clearly defined
learning
outcomes
and content,
mean Cambridge
IGCSE is
compatible
with other
curricula
and is internationally
relevant
and sensitive
to different
needs and
cultures.
In India,
all higher
education
regulatory
bodies such
as AICTE,
MCI, amongst
many others,
recognize
the Cambridge
certification
|
|
Cambridge
IGCSE develops
learner knowledge,
understanding
and skills
in:
|
• Subject
content
•
Applying knowledge
and understanding
to familiar
and new situations
•
Intellectual
enquiry
•
Flexibility
and responsiveness
to change
•
Working and
communicating
in English
•
Influencing
outcomes
•
Cultural awareness |
|
Assessment
for Cambridge
IGCSE includes
written and
oral tests,
coursework
and practical
assessment.
GISB offers
its pupils
the option
of assessment
by way of combining
examinations
with coursework.
Coursework
is set and
marked by the
teacher and
externally
moderated by
Cambridge. |
|
Teachers
who have received
training from
Cambridge,
or who possess
suitable experience
of marking
coursework
carry out these
assessments.
In most subjects
there is a
choice between
core and extended
curricula,
making IGCSE
suitable for
a wide range
of abilities.
Each learner’s
performance
is benchmarked
using eight
internationally
recognised
grades. There
are clear guidelines
which explain
the standard
of achievement
for different
grades. Cambridge
IGCSE examination
sessions occur
twice a year,
in May/June
and October/November.
Thereby students
can split their
academic workload
amongst these
assessment
sessions, in
consultation
with the centre
co-ordinator. |
